  • The following appeared on 4 December 1889 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: George Seitz an old resident of Suspension Bridge either jumped for fell over the precipice of that place about 10:30 last Saturday night while suffering from Delerium tremens. Of late he has been a heavy drinker, and for the past few days has been in bed the greater part of the time. He had been up and about the house Saturday and went to bed about 10 p. m. A quarter of an hour later he came out of his bed room partly dressed, and said that "before he would let them shoot him in the bedroom, he would jump over the bank. [:CR:      He thereupon left the house, which is situatd on Elizabeth street, in a part of the village known as the German settlement, and was followed by David Wagner, his son-in-law, who had suspicions that the crazed man would carry out his threat. For a short distance Wagner kept the man in sight but the darkness was so dense that he soon lost sight of his man. A search was made at the top of the cliff later in the night but it was fruitless. [:CR:      The search was renewed at an early hour Sunday morning, and about 8 o'clock his dead body was found about half way down the debris slope, a short distance south of the residence of Martin V. Pearson. After leaving the house he had apparently gone direct ot the bank, and after walking a short distance along the New York Central tracks had made the leap to death. It was thought from the position in which the body lay when found that he had landed on his feet or knees and pitched forward. One knee was badly cut, the forehead scratched and bruiesed, and the croown of the head bruised. Coroner Cornell was notified, and Monday held the inquest. The deceased was born in Seigen, Germany, forth-eight years ago, and came to the United States in July, 1865. For eighteen years he was in the employ of the New York Central Railroad Company as car repairer and inspector, but for the past few years had been in the saloon and grocery business. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Mrs. David Wagner. The funeral occurred at 2 P. M. yesterday. Deceased was a member of the Odd Fellow and Order of chosen Friends.
  • The following appeared on 17 July 1912 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: The funeral services of Mrs. Julia Seitz will be held from the home, No. 1512 Eighth street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and from the Zion Lutheran church at 2:30, the Reverend Herman Brezing officiating.
