He was preceded in death by his wives Frances McMillan Marks and Jean Elder Mitchell Marks. Survivors include daughters Frances Marks Bruton (John) of Mexico City, Mexico, and Julia Marks Young of Jackson, Miss; grandchildren Alexander Andrews Grant Bruton of Houston, Tex., Edmund Macaulay Bruton II of New Orleans, La., Frances Brinley Bruton of London, U.K., Katherine Andrews Young of Brooklyn, NY, Nicholas Benton Young of Taipei, Taiwan; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews Richard T. Dozier, William Mathews Marks III (Carma), Ralph Stanley Marks (Sandy), Elisabeth Marks Green (James) and Jane Andrews Marks. He will also be missed by Betty Parker, Angela Robinson, Cassandra Henderson, Narissa Hodge and Rosa Sanders, caregivers from Divinity Homecare.
    [:TAB] Marks represented Alabama at the 1924 Boy Scout Jamboree in Denmark and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1926, Mercersburg Academy in 1928, Princeton University in 1932 and Harvard Law School in 1935. He began practicing law in 1935. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corps. He was elected Judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas in 1948, serving until his retirement in 1976. He was known for his fair treatment of those who appeared in court and support of young lawyers. He is remembered for his love of people, curiosity, keen intellect and long-standing interest in geography, politics and history.
    [:TAB] He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, serving as senior warden 1948; and a member of the Montgomery Country Club, Princeton Alumni Association, Alabama Bar Association, Montgomery Society of Pioneers and Alabama Historical Association.
    [:TAB] Funeral Services will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 13, at 3:00 p.m., with visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. John’s or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Pallbearers will be great-nieces and great-nephews William Mathews Marks IV, Richard Hughes Marks, Ralph Stanley Marks, Jr., Anne Marks Warmington, Patricia Dozier Palmer and William Marks Harris.
