  • Henry Black Wood was born in 1829 in Mulberry Community, northeast of Maplesville, Bibb (later Chilton) County, Alabama.
  • He and Eason Blue Wood and Susannah Eugenia Wood accompanied Allen Wood and Delilah Clower to Fayetteville, Talladega County, Alabama, in circa 1834.
  • Allen Wood and Delilah Clower appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Hatchet Creek, Coosa County, Alabama. Other members of the household included Henry Black Wood, Eason Blue Wood, Mary Willis Wood, Peity Dodd Wood, Elisha Beecher Steadman Wood, Missouri Ann Pearson Wood and William Forrest Wood.
  • He was a farmer, and also attending school, according to the 1850 census.
  • He married Sarah Jane Jackson, daughter of Mark Jackson and Balzora (?), on 1 September 1859 in Coosa County, Alabama, at the home of Sarah's mother, with John M. Slaughter officiating.
  • Henry Black Wood and Sarah Jane Jackson appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Mt. Olive, Coosa County, Alabama.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
  • In service to the Confederate States of America, Henry Black Wood enrolled on 10 June 1861 as a volunteer, Company B of the 12th Alabama Regiment. He was captured on 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg and taken a prisoner of war to Fort Delaware.
  • Henry Black Wood died on 4 December 1863 in Fort Delaware, Delaware City, New Castle County, Delaware.
  • His wife Sarah Jane Jackson became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at Finns Point National Cemetery, Pea Patch Island, Salem County, New Jersey.
