  • The following appeared on 15 August 2005 in The Saratogian: Nelson E. Derlick Jr. of South Federal Street, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness. He was 76. Born Aug. 15, 1928, in Saratoga Springs, he was a lifelong resident and son of the late Rose (Rock) Derlick and Nelson E. Derlick Sr. A 1947 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Nelson worked for over 25 years in sales and management for local furniture stores including Standard Furniture and G. Heath King in Saratoga Springs. During his lifetime, he had been involved in many organizations. He was a Third Degree member of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus and served as publicity chairman for many years. He was a fourth degree member of Saratoga Assembly 0745 Knights of Columbus and a member of the Color Corps. He was selected as Knight of the Year in 1993-94 and a member of the New York State Aging Services Advisory Committee, former president of Saratoga County Chapter of AARP Chapter 380, board member on the American Red Cross Advisory Board for Greater Saratoga for the Handicapped, former president of the Saratoga Springs Housing Authority Resident Association, and clerk of the works at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). A communicant and usher at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Richard Derlick and a grandson, Cory J. Lambert. He is survived by four daughters, Nanci St. John and her husband, James, of Key West, Fla., Joan Brophy and her husband, John, of East Sandwich, Mass., Susan McCoy and her husband, Kevin of Carthage and Diane Russell of Milton; his grandchildren, Alexandra Russell, John Brophy, Adam Brophy and Aimee Brophy; three sisters, Irene Gilmore of Albany, Evelyn Izzo of Saratoga Springs and Lorraine Fitzgerald of Ballston Spa; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial will follow in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery on Lincoln Avenue. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373 or burkefuneralhome.com). Officers and members of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights on Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home for their services.
