  • The following appeared on 17 March 1899 in The Buffalo Express: Gibson Edward Harlow, sixteen years old, who lives at No. 183 Walnut Street, attempted to commit suicide at the Maltbie Chemical Company's plant on Washington Street, where he is employed, taking a large dose of strychnine as the means of ending his life. He was found writhing on the floor, but remained conscious long enough to tell that he had swallowed the poison.
He was taken to the Fitch Hospital where the stomach pump and an injection were employed with such good result that he was pronounced out of danger at a late hour last night.
