His classmates have learned with the deepest sorrow that Dutch Knauer died in the U.S. Veterans' Hospital in Lyons, N.J., on April 30.
Born in Atlantic City on February 26, 1887, Dutch graduated from Mercersburg and was with us for all four years at Princeton. He graduated with the degree of Litt.B. He entered Harvard Law School after graduation and after completing his course in 1912, he returned to Atlantic City and began the practice of his profession there where he continued for five years. At the end of that period he engaged in the practice of law for himself, entered the army soon after the outbreak of the war and was in training as a second lieutenant at Camp Taylor at the time of the armistice. At the end of the war he returned to his law practice which he continued up to the time of his illness.
He was a member of many fraternal organizatins and at one time was exalted ruler of the Atlantic City Lodge of Elks.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Edna Rogers Knauer; three daughters, Mary Louise, Jane, and Edna, all of Pleasantville, N.J; his father, Daniel Knauer, retired contractor of Atlantic City; and two brothers, Newton W. and John L. Knauer, both of Atlantic City. To them the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
An enthusiastic Princetonian, a loyal and likable classmate, Dutch will be greatly missed. As a tribute to his memory and a mark of appreciation for his friendship, this Class memorial is inscribed.
