  • The following appeared on 1 September 1897 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: The X-ray machine belonging to Drs. J. W. & W. H. Hodge has been the means of determining the nature of a disease which for some time baffled the skill of local physicians.
Conrad Koelle of Whirlpool Avenue has been suffering for over a year with hip trouble, and though the best physicians and surgeons were employed, the young man did not improve, but grew steadily worse. About a week ago he was taken to the office of Drs. J. W. & W. H. Hodge and there the powerful X-ray machine was put to a test which showed plainly the nature of the diesase. It was found that necrosis, or diseased bone of the hip was the cause of the trouble. Last week the young man was removed to the Lexington Heights Hospital in Buffalo and on Monday Drs. Wilcox of Buffalo and W. H. Hodge of this city removed six inches of the diseased bone.
  • Conrad Koelle died circa 23 February 1898.
