  • The following appeared on 25 April 1904 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Daniel V. Hurley and family have returned to Niagara Falls after an absence of two years and have taken up their residence on Ontario Avenue. They will reside here permanently and will occupy the George J. Weiler home.
         Mr. Hurley and family left Niagara Falls in April 1902 and went to Denver, Col. they went west for the benefit of Mr. Hurley's health and intended to locate in Denver, but the altitude was found too high and the climate too dry and they proceeded further west to Phoenix, Arizona. While in Phoenix Mr. Hurley was not engaged in any particular line of business. The two years of the beautiful climate of Arizona has greatly improved him and he returns to his native town sound and robust.
         Mr. Hurley and family arrived early this morning over the Michigan Central Railroad. Mr. Hurley has a large following of friends in the city who will welcome his return and will be pleased to hear of his improved helath.
         If the ex-police commissioner and politician has arranged his future plans in Niagara Falls he has made no announcement of them. It is known, though, that he will not return to the harness-making and supply business in which he was engaged before disposing of it to George L. Daul previous to his going out west.

  • The following appeared on 18 January 1926 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: The funeral of Daniel V. Hurley, who died at his home, No. 1001 Ontario avenue Thursday night, was held today in Sacred Heart church. The solemn High Mass of Requiem was sun by the Very Rev. Dean James J. Roche. Interment was in Riverdale cemetery. The bearers were: Albert Bellinger, Lawrence Fell, John Roeder, Martin J. Donohue, Daniel Rivers and J. Hudson.
  • The following appeared on 15 January 1941 in The Niagara Falls Gazette: The Gazette of 15 years ago today brought news of the death of Daniel V. Hurley, perhaps the most widely known of older north end residents, which occurred at his home, 1001 Ontario avenue, at the age of 62. A native of the village of Niagara Falls, Mr. Hurley operated a trucking business in the north end for many years and became one of the foremost local bosses in Democratic politics. For years the annual "Hurley Outings" were events of citywide interest. He served as sealer of weights and measures and as a member of the board of public works and the board of police commissioners. Several years before his death he and a number of followers had a bitter dispute with Democratic leaders and bolted the party to align themselves with the Republican element. From then until his death he shunned public life. He was survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. J. Kenefic and Miss Catherine Hurley.
