  • The following appeared on 5 December 1939 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Lewiston, Dec. 5 -- Mrs. Susan Bates, 68 years old, died yesterday afternoon at the family home in the Town of Lewiston. Mrs. Bates had been a resident of Lewiston for many years and was well known throughout the community. Her loss will be mourned by a wide circle of friends.
         She is survived by two sons, Norman C., of Pekin, China, and Kenneth, of this city; one daughter, Mrs. Everart Heath, of Lewiston; her mother, Mrs. Cecelia Koelle, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Frank McKinnon, Mrs. Dempster Hardy, Mrs. William Zinter, Mrs. Bert McConnell, George, John and Christ Koelle, all of Niagara Falls.
         Funeral services will be held from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Everart Heath, Saunders Settlement road, Town of Lewiston, Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemeter and the Rev. Arthur Schmoyer will officiate.
